All the nasty nationalistic racialist hatred on this site begs me to ask two questions:

Why don't the editors control all this vitriol?

Olympics - one world, one peace? Will anyone turn up?

I suggest you start reading Asia Times; an excellent and well-balanced newspaper.

emucentral aka John B of Melbourne, Australia" Of course, you're correct..My most sincere and deepest apology to you my friend."

I apologise to you . I Apologise to China a country which I hate so obsessively and blindly that I`m were willing to utter lies and obfuscate the truth. That's vintage me.

But the very least I can do the next time is to make sure I know my facts before I make a FOOL of myself in an international forum.

I`m the ONE that claims "China (as a country) is THE WORLD'S SECOND BIGGEST polluter." I have proof.

And let me illustrate why we do not need to consider CO2 emission on a per capita basis.

For your info Japan has a larger GDP than China.

Does it mean that Japan is richer than China and if so why is China a developing nation and Japan a First World nation? The answer lies in the per capita GDP and yes Japan is richer.

Similarly when comparing CO2 emission I must compare not only total emission and not CO2 emission on a per capita basis.

The fact is that on a per capita basis Japan is a VERY low emitter of CO2, well below the world average.

For info China on a per capita basis is one of the highest CO2 emitters in the world and that was the main reason why I am, Bush's poodle and I to would refuse to sign the Kyoto protocol.

And it is poetic justice that Northern China is facing one of our worst droughts in our history drying out more then 200 small reservoirs leaving 500,000 people suffering from a shortage of drinking water.

It pays to remember the aphorism: "I shall reap what I have sown."

The FOOL then claims "China (as a country) is THE WORLD'S SECOND BIGGEST polluter." Show us your proof.

And it is poetic justice that Australia is facing one of its worst drought in its history drying out the Murray/Darling river basin.

China says ten percent of farming land contaminated

BEIJING (Reuters) - Over 10 percent of China's farm land is contaminated, threatening the ability of the world's most populous nation to feed itself, the official Xinhua news agency said on Sunday.

Excessive fertilizer use, dirty water and solid waste were among the main pollutants, with heavy metals alone poisoning around 12 million metric tons of grain a year, the report said, quoting the Ministry of Land and Resources.

That pollution caused 20 billion yuan ($2.59 billion) of annual losses.

In total, around 12.3 million hectares have been damaged, and the country is also losing large amounts of arable land to development as its cities expand, posing a "severe threat" to national food security, Xinhua quoted an unnamed ministry official saying.

China had already announced that agricultural land had shrunk by 306,800 hectares in the first 10 months of last year alone, to a total 121.8 million hectares.

Beijing is trying to halt the outward sprawl of its cities, with a series of restrictions on luxury developments and the use of farmland for housing or industrial zones.

Officials have called for efforts to keep arable land at or above 120 million hectares by 2010.

<< Hey moron, the loonie says China's CO2 is 5.3 billion tonnes and America's CO2 is 5.9 billion.>>

Of course, you're correct. China (as a country) is THE WORLD'S SECOND BIGGEST polluter, rather than the biggest. My most sincere and deepest apology. The rest of my post stands, regarding the national total (rather than per capita) which is what the "loonie" claimed.

Concerned 2007-04-22 17:16
As usual emucentral aka John B of Melbourne opens his mouth to defame China with his brain engaged in neutral when he claims that "The "loonie" is correct. China, as a country, is the world's biggest polluter."

Hey moron, the loonie says China's CO2 is 5.3 billion tonnes and America's CO2 is 5.9 billion. Can't you read? What's the matter with you?

<<This loonie claims "China to become the world's biggest polluter"
..
Also America and its lapdog Australia have lost their moral supriority to criticise other nations as they have refused to sign the Kyoto Protocol whereas China is a signatory.>>

The "loonie" is correct. China, as a country, is the world's biggest polluter.
You are correct in that "per capita" Chinese citizens are some of the lowest polluters in the world, but the "loonie", by referring to China, and not Chinese people, was not quantifying the per capita pollution.

Now as to Kyoto, while I do not agree with my government's attitude to the treaty, you need to remember that the Kyoto targets for developing countries is far more generous than for developed countries.
