Now let me tell you this there are a lot of dirty hands in this situation when it comes to military prostitution because this comfort women situation besides the African slave trade in the west is the largest case of human trafficking in 20th century history, now to be fair the Japanese empire had plenty of help, people in occupied territories trying to make money or other kinds of perks from the Japanese, sold their own daughter's to pay off debts or poverty stricken families not having enough food to eat plus during that time women had no human rights at all. I'm American and I've been to Germany, Japan, Korea and Taiwan, Now the American Government had knowlege through intelligence about the situation in asia and the pacific region about the Japanese brothel system but could do nothing until the end of the war and as a matter of fact repatriated many comfort women back to their respective countries after Japans surrender. I would hope that Japan's elder population tell the younger Japanese children the truth about the war because if they don't it's going to hurt them in the long run, tell them why America dropped the atomic bomb on their cities because after the death,s of the last comfort women this situation is not going to go away it will get worse, Japanese children need to know why and to the ethnic Korean population of Japan you may want to hold on to your korean name because South Korea is a growing power in asia economically and militarily creating world class products, you and your family may have to go back there one day instead of suffering indignation as aliens in a foreign land, as an American I can tell you that Koreans are very popular in the United States and Europe, but at the end of the day there is much evidence at the top level of the Japanese government and in American archives and allies records from ww2 about this unfortunate situation that a lot of women were caught up in, I hope they come clean and break the zeitgeist- time ghost of the past.
